Ultherapy: The Non-Surgical Face Lift

As the years pass, the effects of sun damage and aging can cause wrinkles, folds, and sagging as our skin loses elasticity and volume. What if you didn’t have to go under the knife to get the effects of a mini face lift? Ultherapy® can help turn back time!

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy® is the only non-invasive procedure, FDA-cleared to lift and tighten loose skin on the neck, under the chin, jawline and jowls. It also helps to lift the eyebrows as well as improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the chest.

The treatment uses focused ultrasound energy to heat targeted tissue under the surface of the skin, stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen. Initial results can be seen after 2 to 3 months as the collagen gradually regenerates to lift and tighten the tissue. Results from a single treatment last up to 2 years, at which point we recommend re-treating to maintain and enhance results.

What is a face lift?

A face lift or rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure which removes excess, sagging skin and smooths folds, to lift and tighten the deeper facial tissues. After anesthesia is administered for pain, incisions are made and the the skin is separated from the underlying tissue and muscles. The excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is laid back over the newly restored facial tissues.

Which treatment is right for me?

Ultherapy treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery, but won’t duplicate the results of a face lift. The lifting with Ultherapy is natural and gradual; whereas face lift results are seen more immediately. A face lift is the more permanent option.

Since Ultherapy is nonsurgical and uses the body’s own natural healing process, there is less risk involved than with a face lift. It has the advantage of no downtime, no scarring, or swelling. Only about 10% of all patients treated have bruising following Ultherapy. With a face lift, bruising and swelling is common over 1-2 weeks of recovery time.

Ultherapy is the less expensive option, starting at $2,500. The cost of a facelift in comparison, averages a heftier $7,048, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

The ideal candidate for Ultherapy is one with a mild to moderate degree of skin laxity.  Ultherapy is a great choice for patients who are not interested in surgical options, yet want to achieve lifting in the skin or those who have undergone a face lift in the past and wish to maintain the results.
