Micro-Needling FAQ’S

Get answers to your most pressing questions about this specific treatment. Here are a few that we hear most often:

How long is a Micro-Needling appointment?

Treatment times generally range between 15 and 45 minutes depending on the area you are treating.

Will it hurt?

Our medical providers do everything possible to minimize discomfort. You will be prescribed a topical anesthetic to apply to the treatment area which will significantly reduce any pain you may experience, making the treatment quite comfortable. Bony areas on the face tend to be more tender than others and treatment around the nose can cause a tickling sensation.

Is it safe?

Yes. If you are seen by an experienced professional who performs the treatment in a safe, precise manner with the use of a sterile needle head, micro-needling is very safe. This is, of course, the experience you will have at Timeless.

What should I expect?

An anesthetic will be prescribed and you will pick it up at your pharmacy. About an hour prior to your treatment, you will apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area. At the time of treatment your provider will apply a hyaluronic acid gel to the skin to help the micro-needling device glide smoothly over the skin to increase both comfort and efficacy. Using a pen-shaped medical device. fitted with a sterile, disposable tip and a cluster of needles, your provider will treat the skin.

Following treatment, the skin will be flushed in appearance. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the treated area. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatment. After 12 hours, you can wash the area with a gentle wash, and after 24 hours, if you have treated the face, you can apply mineral makeup. We recommend ColoreScience. You may experience flaking 3-5 days post treatment, but SkinMedica HA5 or a gentle moisturizer is fine to use. After that, get ready for for beautiful skin!

When will I start seeing results?

Many patients see noticeable results after 1 treatment, but best results are generally seen after a series of 4-6 treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart.

How long do results last?

Once you obtain the results you are looking for, we recommend quarterly treatments to maintain those results.

Will there be downtime?

You may experience temporary redness and sensitivity, a little swelling and/or minimal pinpoint bleeding or bruising. Redness usually clears within 12-48 hours, while sensitivity may last a little longer.

How does Micro-Needling at Timeless compare to at home treatments?

Don’t try this at home. While at-home devices for micro-needling are available, our clinicians advise that you do not consider this option. You risk scarring and possibly infection. This treatment is always best when practiced at a medical office. Aside from the safety concerns, devices available for home use do not provide the same results or benefits that you will experience from a treatment administered by professionals.

How much does it cost?

Micro-needling cost varies by treatment area, and is available in package pricing for added savings. Treatments generally range from $200-$500 depending on the size of the area being treated.

Am I a candidate?

Among the many benefits of Micro-Needling, one is that it is appropriate for virtually any skin type. That being said, if you have used Accutane within 6-months of treatment, micro-needling may not be appropriate for you. As with any treatment, discussing your concerns and medical history with a medical provider will help determine the best treatment options for you.

How does Micro-Needling Work?

Medical micro-needling is a non-surgical, therapeutic procedure used to improve the tone, texture and appearance of skin. A pen-shaped medical device fitted with a sterile, disposable tip, studded with a cluster of needles creates micro-channels (tiny holes) in the skin. The process stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and in the process produces collagen and elastin which plump the skin and smooth wrinkles and scars.

The needle depth can be adjusted during the course of the procedure to accommodate different treatment areas, and can easily maneuver around facial contours and delicate features, such as the eyes, nose and mouth. The high-speed (8500rpm) automated needling motion minimizes pain and discomfort, while better promoting an even absorption of topicals, acids and peptides into the skin to enhance overall results. Results can include improved texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.
