Laser Hair Removal FAQ’sGet answers to your most pressing questions about this specific treatment. Here are a few that we hear most often:

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY SKIN BEFORE AND AFTER MY TREATMENT?

How long does an appointment last?

A typical appointment lasts between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on size of area treated.

Who will perform my treatment?

One of our highly trained licensed medical professionals will perform your laser hair removal treatment.

Will it hurt?

It is relatively easy to tolerate. Some patients feel a small pinch each time the laser pulses against the skin, describing the feeling like that of a rubber band snap or pin prick. The sensation is momentary and there is no lingering pain or discomfort. There is less pain noticed with subsequent treatments. We also provide numbing cream to make the treatment more comfortable.

Is it safe?

Side effects of laser hair removal are rare, and may include redness, swelling, lip numbness, pigment changes in surrounding skin (especially for dark-skinned patients) and/or scarring.Laser hair removal is safe for people of all skin tones and colors, although we recommend a spot test for those with more melanin in their skin so she can determine how the skin will tolerate treatment.

Is there downtime?

There is no downtime with laser hair removal. You can return to regular activities.

What should I expect?

A thin coat of clear, cool gel is applied over the area to be treated, laser pulses are quickly and evenly applied through a small, cooled handpiece.

How long do results last?

Only hairs that are in their active growth cycle at the time of treatment (about 1/4 to 1/3) are disabled, which is why multiple treatments are required. Most patients require an average of 5 treatments, once every 6-8 weeks, followed by maintenance therapy.

How much does it cost?

Laser hair removal is priced per area and starts at $130. Package pricing is available and offers the best value for our patients.

Am I a candidate?

In order to treat hair with a laser it must have pigment in the hair follicle. This means that grey, blond or light red hair cannot be treated with laser hair removal. We recommend dermaplane for treatment of these hair colors. We recommend a spot test for those with darker skin tones.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works by disabling the hair root and impeding hair growth. Both the 1064 Nd Yag laser and the Prowave 770 are used for the longest, most deeply penetrating wavelengths to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment..

Only hairs that are in active growth cycle at the time of treatment (about 1/4 to 1/3) are disabled, which is why multiple treatments may be required. Even if hair does eventually grow back, it is usually finer in texture and lighter in color than the original hair, and much less of a cosmetic problem.
