Three Secrets to a Younger Looking Neck

It’s a fact of life, as we age our skin loses elasticity. While many of us spend a lot of time caring for our faces, it can be easy to forget the importance of our neck to our overall appearance. Unfortunately, aging, sun exposure, and weight loss can all cause the skin on the neck to appear loose, sagging, or dull. You’ve likely seen this before – someone with a smooth, wrinkle-free face, but with a neck that looks much older?

The good news is that there are non-invasive treatments that can be particularly effective in addressing the signs of aging on your neck.

Concern #1 Sagging in the face, neck and jowls

Recommended Treatment: Ultherapy

Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved treatment that lifts sagging skin without surgery, creating a more sculpted jawline and chin.

How it works: Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to create small injuries beneath the surface of the skin. In response, our bodies respond with a healing process that encourages the body to produce collagen. With this increased collagen, skin is lifted and tightened.

Think of the effect on the skin in the same way a workout affects a muscle. Working out strains our muscles, and the muscle responds to the strain by creating a firmer tighter body. The process of Ultherapy on sagging skin is the same. The good news is that this takes place below the surface of the skin so the only sign you have had the treatment is a more sculpted jawline.

Concern #2 Double chin and a less-than-desirable profile

Recommended Treatment: Kybella

Kybella is the only FDA-approved non-surgical injection that specifically dissolves fat in the lower chin.

How it works:  Many of us store fat under the chin that is resistant to diet and exercise. This fat can be genetic, due to the natural aging process, or created by changes in body weight. Fortunately, this pocket of excess fat, often referred to as a double chin, can be permanently reduced with a series of Kybella injections.

Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance that is naturally made in the body. When precisely injected it begins to destroy fat cells beneath the surface of the skin; the dead fat cells are then removed from the body naturally through the lymphatic system. Results can be seen in 4 to 6 weeks at which point a second treatment is recommended. For best results, an average of 2-3 treatments are recommended. With Kybella, you no longer have to “go under the knife” to achieve a more sculpted chin.

Concern #3: Lines on the neck

Recommended Treatment: Botox and Fillers

How it works: If you have sagging and wrinkles on your neck, injectables can help give you the profile that you have always wanted. As we age, lines can form both vertically and horizontally on the neck.

For deep, horizontal lines on your neck, injectable fillers such as JUVÉDERM® can provide instant gratification and improvement in the appearance of those neck wrinkles.

Botox® relaxes the platysma muscle and softens prominent neckbands. Botox® is a shorter-term maintenance treatment that is needed every 3-4 months.
