As Gail Hogan recently said when she was talking to Dr. Carol Clinton, “Living through acne can be tough enough.”

But scars left over from break outs are a bit of a double-whammy.

“People can be so self-conscious of this,” she said.

Clinton said there ARE options.

“It can really have a large impact on people. One of the things that happens with acne is you can get deep pock marking.

“You also can just get discoloration and it can still look like you have a break out because the skin is either reddish or brown,” said Clinton.

“There are things you can do at home and things we can do at the office.

“The nicest thing is these treatments are both” the scar treatment and preventing further breakouts, Clinton said.

Alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy products as well as Retin-A treatments can help with both acne and acne scarring as well.

“Nobody should ever feel helpless,” Clinton said.

“We have so many things to help acne (and scarring) that if just one thing was the way to go then nobody would have to suffer with it.

“We really have to work with an individual’s skin.”
