Botox® for Beginners: Do’s & Don’ts

Are you considering getting Botox® for the first time? If so, you might have questions about what to expect before, during, and after your ‘tox treatment. Before we dive into the nitty gritty, it’s important to note that Botox® is one of the safest and most effective products available.

With FDA approval for cosmetic use in areas such as between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and more, it has become a popular choice for those seeking a refreshed look. Now, let’s walk through some essential dos and don’ts to consider before scheduling your appointment.

Before Your Botox® Treatment:

  • Don’t get Botox® from someone just because they’re offering savings.
  • Do your homework! Botox® treatments should only be performed by qualified medical professionals, such as dermatologists, plastic surgeons, or trained injectors. Be sure to research reputable providers in your area and choose a clinic or medical spa with a track record of safety and patient satisfaction. At Timeless, we’re proud to be ranked in the top 1% of injectors in the country.
  • Do avoid things like alcohol, aspirin, Vitamin E, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory products 3 days prior to treatment to reduce the chance of bruising, unless otherwise directed.

During Your Botox® Treatment:

  • Don’t worry about taking the day off for your treatment. Your appointment will take 30 minutes or less, with the injections themselves taking around 10 to 15 minutes to be administered, depending on the number of areas being treated.
  • Do expect a little discomfort – but not much! Most patients say they experience some minor, brief discomfort (like a pinch) at the moment of injection.

After Your Botox® Treatment:

  • Don’t expect immediate results. Botox® generally starts to take effect in 3-5 days, but you may not see your full results for up to two weeks.
  • Do expect some mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites. These side effects are temporary and typically subside within a few hours to a few days.
  • Don’t rub or massage the treated area for 48 hours to prevent the spread of the Botox® toxin.
  • Do contract the muscles injected with Botox® for about an hour after treatment to allow the Botox® to flow into the muscle, resulting in a more long-lasting effect.
  • Do remain upright for at least four hours.
  • Do avoid exercise for 24 hours, as working out increases blood flow through the muscles and can potentially diffuse the neurotoxin.
  • Don’t be afraid to follow up if you are not 100% pleased with your results. At Timeless, we do everything we can to ensure you get the right results for you.
  • Do use medical-grade skincare products to prolong, encourage, and promote the life of your Botox®, such as:
  • Don’t forget to book your next appointment! Botox® results typically lasts for three to four months, and regular maintenance treatments are necessary to sustain your desired look.
