Botox® or Filler? Combine for Best Results!

As we age, our natural collagen production begins to slow and the skin loses the elasticity and smoothness it once had. The face begins to hollow, skin sags, and wrinkles form … but it is possible to shed years from your appearance almost instantly by combining Botox® and facial fillers.

In the past, plastic surgery was the only way to lift, tighten, and combat aging skin. Today, Botox® and fillers are injectable treatments commonly paired together that aim for a natural, younger-looking appearance without surgery or downtime. So common, in fact, that more than 10.4 million Botox® and filler treatments were performed in 2019! Trust us, this is a trend that you do NOT want to miss out on.

Why Pair Botox® + Filler?

1. Address multiple skin concerns at once

As a general rule, lines of expression require Botox®, while lines at rest need filler. Botox® relaxes the dynamic muscles that cause creases and wrinkles, while filler is best for deeper lines that are apparent even when facial muscles are not contracting. Filler can also replace lost volume and help to add contour and definition to the face.

2. Enhance different areas of the face

Traditionally, Botox® has been injected in the upper face to correct frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines, also known as the “11s”), forehead lines, and crows feet around the eyes. Newer uses of Botox® include the popular “lip flip” to create a fuller upper lip, injecting along the jawline to enhance the shape of the face, and injecting in the neck to erase necklines.

Filler, on the other hand, is typically used in the lower face. At Timeless Skin Solutions, we utilize both the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers – including JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC, JUVÉDERM® XC, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC & JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC – and the RHA Collection by Revance – including RHA2, RHA3, and RHA4. While your provider can help determine which is the best product to use to meet your individual goals, these fillers are used to address:

  • Fill nasolabial folds (known as smile lines)
  • Address marionette lines that run straight downwards from the corners of the mouth
  • Restore age-related volume loss in the temples and cheekbones
  • Fill in vertical lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eye area
  • To plump the lips.

3. The results will last longer

Filler does not tend to last as long in areas of the face that are in frequent motion, such as around the mouth. The hyaluronic acid in fillers is less likely to break down when facial muscle movement is inhibited by Botox®. The results of the two injectables acting synergistically will last longer in between maintenance treatments.
