Intense Pulse Light (IPL) + Photo Facial | Sun Damaged Skin | Columbus Ohio Dermatologist + Dermatology + Skin Care | Columbus, OH | Dublin, OH

Erases the effects of the sun

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an effective treatment for many skin conditions, including acne, scars and spots. It is especially helpful in preventing and reversing sun damage, while offering the added benefit of no downtime.

How it Works/What To Expect

Using a specific wavelength of light, IPL/Photofacial delivers a precise amount of light deep within the skin through a series of gentle pulses.

The light increases the production of collagen and is absorbed by discolored pigment in the skin. The discoloration, if you have it, is broken into particles that are either removed by the body’s natural immune system or sloughed off the surface of the skin.

During the 15- to 30-minute treatment, expect a bright light followed by a mild and temporary stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Pigmented spots will darken and eventually flake off, however, they will not be noticeable nor should they affect your work or social schedule. Patients with no brown, red or dark pigmented spots will not experience this type of flaking.

For optimal results, Dr. Clinton usually recommends 4 to 6 treatments, 3 to 6 weeks apart. Dr. Clinton may also recommend IPL/Photofacial as part of a longer-term maintenance plan.
