How does this treatment differ from Hair Removal?
In hair removal,
the laser targets the pigment of the hair shafts. The
follicles are heated up and causes it to die and reabsorbed into the
body.
Whereas with laser
removal of blood vessels, the blood is heated up in the targeted
vessel. This causes the vessel to die and reabsorbed
into the body. This reroutes the blood from the surface of the
skin back down underneath the skin where it belongs.
How does the laser work when removing
unwanted veins?
A small, cooled
handheld device is gently applied to the treatment
site where a pulse of intense, concentrated light eliminates blood
vessels. The energy passes thru the skin and the energy passed
is absorbed by the pigment of the blood. This allows for selective
damage to be incurred to the target blood vessels. The amount
of energy is only engaged for a fraction of a second and duration
is carefully calculated to allow it to only effect the area being
treated.
What areas can be treated?
ALL parts of the
body CAN be treated (and ARE treated). In women, the most common
areas for
treatment are blood vessels on the thighs,
lower legs and ankles. In men and women unwanted red blood vessels
on the nose and face, including those associated with acne rosacea
and with sun damage, are successfully treated. Cherry hemangiomas (red
dots on the trunk, arms and legs), and “spider hemangiomas” on the
face, upper chest and other parts of the body are other commonly treated
lesions.
