Cleanliness Is Next to Skinlinessspring cleaning at timeless skin solutions

That doesn’t sound right does it?

“Cleanliness is not next to godliness. It isn’t even in the same neighborhood. No one has ever gotten a religious experience out of removing burned-on cheese from the grill of the toaster oven.”  ~ Erma Bombeck

It IS Important

Get into that spring cleaning mode, because it’s time to check your medicine cabinet and your vanity.

According to Dr. Carol Clinton, there are some very real consequences to not keeping things in order when it comes to your skin care products.

“These products become less active.

“They have a limited shelf life,” she said.

Telltale Signs

If you get a sunburn, it’s too late.

Sunscreen is one of the products that can be critically important to get rid of in a timely manner.

It loses its effectiveness and can’t protect you from harmful rays and damage if you use it after its expiration date.

Some products will let you know they are done before you check the expiration date through discoloration.

It’s truly best to stay ahead of the game and just go through and do a little spring cleaning.

Spring Clean, Go Green and Save

We’ve got an incentive to clean out all those expired skin care products.

For one week only starting Monday (April 23, 2012) bring in any of your unused or empty  skin care product bottles and SAVE 10 percent on our products.

We’ll recycle the bottle, and you can save.

There is a purchase limit of 10 products and this offer is not to be combined with other offers.

I want to add a stronger SPF into my regimen now that it’s almost summer. Where should I add it in?

This is a great question, and one that many people don’t know to ask. When wearing a sunscreen, always apply it after your toner and serums, but before your moisturizer. This allows the sunscreen to penetrate deeper than it would if you put it on last, due to the emollient qualities of moisturizer.

If you want to keep it simple, use a moisturizer that has SPF. Many daily moisturizers include adequate sun protection (my personal favorite is SkinMedica Ultimate Daily Moisturizer with SPF). Just remember that, when you are outside for extended periods of time, it is important to reapply approximately every 2 hours for maximum effectiveness.

Many patients opt to keep the extra step and add in a sunscreen for a variety of reasons. For patients with dryer skin types, a moisturizer may be needed in addition to sunscreen to keep the skin hydrated. Also, many sunscreens do not provide the anti-aging qualities of medical grade moisturizers, so you may want to consider not only your sun-protection, but your anti-aging regimen as well.

Most importantly, remember that sunscreen is not just for the summertime. Whether you’re at the beach or you’re shoveling the snow off your driveway, you’re exposed to the sun’s rays; sand reflects 25 percent of the sun’s rays while snow reflects around 80 percent. Even on a cloudy day, up to 80 percent of the sun’s ultraviolet rays can pass through the clouds.

The moral of the story is simply this: always stay protected. Sun damage is one of the leading causes of skin cancer, premature aging, lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.
