The Diary of a KYBELLA™ treatment

Step 1: I scheduled a consultation with one of the Timeless Skin Solutions medical providers to determine if I was a candidate for KYBELLA™. There are multiple signs of aging in the neck and chin. KYBELLA™ is specifically used to target fat cells in the chin, however if my double chin was due to sagging skin rather than fat I most likely would have been directed towards an Ultherapy treatment to LIFT the sagging skin. 

Prior to my treatment: The area under the chin was numbed with lidocaine. Next a temporary tattoo with tiny dots was applied to the chin area. This allows the medical staff to clearly see each injection site.

During the treatment: I received 17 small injections during my KYBELLA™ treatment. The injections were not painful and felt somewhat similar to a Botox treatment. The entire treatment was completed in less than 30 minutes from start to finish.

Immediately following the treatment: I could feel a slight burning or tingling sensation in the area that was injected. To reduce swelling and bruising I iced the area several times for the next 24 hours. You can see from my photo the area under my chin was red and swollen immediately following  the treatment.

Day #1: Much of what you read about KYBELLA™ says the area of injection may be bruised and swollen after treatment. I had only 2 small pinpoint bruises. To be honest,  I would describe the “swelling” more like emphasized loose skin and fluid in the treated area; Think of a bull frog, because that is what the chin looks like for about 3 days. I liked wearing a scarf for the next few days to camouflage the loose skin. This fluid pocket and the small bruises disappeared within a few days.

Week #1: I still noticed tenderness and numbness in the treated area. The “swelling” and bruising was gone.

Week #2: I still had a little numbness and tenderness but nothing that is really noticeable unless I press on the area under my chin.

Week #3: The numbness and tenderness is completely gone. The only thing that I even notice is some slight firmness in the area.

Week #4: I am able to see a difference in the area under my chin and I am ready for my next treatment!
