How GRASS Can Transform Skin

Happy First Day of Spring!

When we think of Spring we think of fresh, green grass.  Speaking of GRASS, we love sharing SkinMedica’s G.R.A.S.S. skincare regimen with our patients.  Wondering what G.R.A.S.S. has to do with your skincare?

G.R.A.S.S. is an acronym which stands for the important ingredients that should be in everyone’s skincare products.  Let’s take a look at what the letters stand for and why the ingredients are great for healthy, fresh skin.

G – Growth Factors.  They are naturally occurring proteins in the skin and repair damage that aging skin needs.  Multiple growth factors work together and are critical in repairing and remodeling the skin cell structure for effective anti-aging.

Dr. Clinton’s recommendation: SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum

R – Retinols/Retinoids.  This ingredient improves the appearance of fine lines, aging, and sun-damaged skin.  It encourages your skin to exfoliate, constantly revealing improved skin tone and texture.

Dr. Clinton’s recommendation: SkinMedica’s Retinol Complex .25%, .5%, OR 1.0%

A – Antioxidants.  Effective antioxidants provide your skin protection from free radicals, sunburning, and help maintain healthy skin.

Dr. Clinton’s recommendation: SkinMedica’s Vitamin C & E Complex OR Dermaquest Antioxidant Soothing Serum

S – Sunscreen.  The sun is responsible for breaking down your skin and making it susceptible to aging, skin cancer, and damage.  Everyone needs a sunscreen to protect from the sun’s damaging rays.  All year, everyday.

Dr. Clinton’s recommendation: SkinMedica’s Ultimate Daily Moisturizer plus SPF 20 OR Colorescience’s Sunforgettables SPF 30/50

S – Specialty Ingredients.  We customize everything here for our patients because not everyone’s skin is the same.  Specialty ingredients allow for that extra care that is needed for your specific skin concern.  (i.e. acne treatment, rosacea care, or hyperpigmentation brighteners)

Dr. Clinton’s recommendation: SkinMedica’s Lytera OR SkinMedica’s Redness Relief Calmplex

G.R.A.S.S. does not necessarily stand for the order certain products should be applied, but rather a helpful way to remember what ingredients are important to implement into your skincare routine.

Does your current skincare regimen have G.R.A.S.S.?  Need help finding which products contain which ingredients?  You are always welcome to stop in and speak with one of our skincare specialists.  We look forward to helping you!
