People who have them want to be rid of them. And no wonder. Dark, under eye circles or “raccoon eyes” can make you look tired and feel older than you are.
Makeup and concealers don’t hide them well, either. In fact, the caking and creasing caused by makeup can actually make dark circles look even more noticeable.
But Dr. Clinton and her staff can help.
Medically speaking, dark circles are uniform areas of pigmentation and veins under the eyes. They can be caused by genetics, aging and loss of collagen, as well as small, non-harmful red blood cell leaks in the tiny blood vessels called capillaries.
The dark color of under eye circles comes from the body’s natural process of breaking down hemoglobin in the red blood cells. (It’s very similar to what happens when you get a bruise.)
Deep-set and hollow eyes can give the appearance of having dark shadows under the eyes, too. And once you have them, dark circles can be exacerbated by such things as: allergies, eczema, genetics, pigmentation irregularities, nasal congestion, stress, lack of sleep, sun exposure and loss of collagen due to aging.
Unlike cosmetic cover-ups, Dr. Clinton treats the cause of dark circles using Pearl™, Facial Fillers, Botox® Cosmetic/Dysport™ and Photodynamic Therapy.
